Wooster council rezones 2 parcels, debate highlights zoning issue

WOOSTER – City Council voted Monday to rezone nearly six acres across two parcels, in a 5 to 1 vote, to make way for a dental clinic. The vote came after a back-and-forth debate over the nature of commercial zoning.

The land that sits on the east side of Akron Road and the west side of Enterprise Parkway was initially zoned as an office/limited industrial district (I-1), but after Monday’s meeting, it is a C-3 general commercial district.

A C-3 property, said Councilwoman Barbara Knapic, would allow future business owners to build higher traffic businesses like bars, pet daycares, hotels or restaurants on the property. 

The zoning also allows for medical and dental offices and 24-hour urgent care clinics, according to the city’s zoning code.
